CP-WBS Water-Based Organoclay — Technical Data Sheet
Highest-viscosity water-dispersible organoclay grade. 10,000–13,000 mPa·s at 10% in water. Transparent, light-colored gel. For putty, high-build waterborne paints, toothpaste, cream and lotion cosmetics, emulsion coatings, and water-borne sealants.
CP-WBS is a heavy-duty water-dispersible organoclay delivering the highest gel viscosity in the water-based CP organoclay range — 10,000–13,000 mPa·s at 10% concentration in water. The higher bulk density (0.60–0.80 g/cm³) reflects the denser clay structure that produces stronger gel networks in aqueous systems. CP-WBS is specified for applications requiring thick, high-viscosity aqueous gels: cement-based putty, high-build waterborne industrial coatings, dental care formulations, and water-borne sealants where standard water-based grades provide insufficient gel strength.
High-Viscosity Advantage: CP-WBS provides 3–4× the gel viscosity of standard water-based organoclay at equivalent concentration. This allows effective anti-sag and anti-settling in high-density waterborne formulations — such as cement-based putty with calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate fillers at 60–70% total solid content — where lighter water-based grades provide insufficient yield point to prevent settling during storage.
Incorporation Procedure
Prepare water phase at pH 7.0–8.0
Add CP-WBS powder directly to water at 0.2–3.0% of total formulation
Disperse at high speed for 20–30 minutes
Add additives, pigments, fillers after CP-WBS is fully hydrated
Add emulsion or binder last with gentle mixing
Frequently Asked Questions
How does CP-WBS compare to CP-EW and CP-EWS?
CP-WBS delivers the highest viscosity in the water-based range: 10,000–13,000 mPa·s at 10% in water. CP-EWS provides ≥3,000 mPa·s at 3%; CP-EW forms gel at ≥2% without a specified viscosity. Choose CP-WBS for high-density putty, high-build waterborne coatings, and applications requiring maximum gel strength. Use CP-EW or CP-EWS for standard waterborne paints, cosmetics, and coatings where moderate gel strength is sufficient.
What concentration of CP-WBS is needed for different applications?
Typical dosage: 1.5–3.0% for putty and filling compounds; 1.0–2.0% for high-build waterborne industrial coatings; 0.5–1.0% for standard emulsion paint; 1.5–3.0% for toothpaste; 0.5–2.0% for cream/lotion cosmetics; 1.0–2.5% for water-borne sealants. Start at the lower end and adjust based on measured viscosity and thixotropy performance in the specific formulation.
